Long claws? Time for a Pet-icure

March 26th, 2019 |      0 comments

chihuahua puppy with tiny clawsWe love interacting with our cats, dogs and other pets.

But long claws can spell the difference between fun and a trip to the doctor’s clinic for a few antiseptic shots.

So let’s talk about one of the things that pet owners are obviously concerned about but do little to nothing about it because of these reasons:

  • I don’t know how to cut my pet’s claws safely and without causing harm
  • I don’t have time to cut my pet’s claws
  • I don’t have the money to hire professional groomers’ fees
  • I didn’t know you had to cut their claws to be safe

There are more reasons out there but those are the four top reasons why pets often go on with their lives with long claws, unknowingly causing harm to those around them.

But there’s another reason why you should regularly have their claws shorn. For dogs, claws that are too long can affect their mobility. For some cases, permanently.

cat high fiveFor cats, you wouldn’t want to come home to a house full of shredded furniture, would you? No? Trim your cat’s claws. Most cats, when trained early to enjoy the activity, won’t even give you a fuss. So start training your kittens today.

Birds aren’t exempt from this. Since your feathered family members aren’t exposed to the wild like their uncaged counterparts, there is a tendency for their claws to grow longer than necessary. This can cause issues when perching. Bird claws are a little bit more complicated to trim since they’re tiny and fragile. Take special care when trimming their claws or bring them to us, we can do it for you with our specialised equipment.

If this is your first time having your pet’s claws clipped, you’ll see that there is a vast world of difference between un maintained claws and clipped claws. Interactions with your pet will get better because you won’t have that subconscious fear of pain (no matter how light the scratches are), no more snagging on clothes and other delicate fabrics, no more torn up furniture and most importantly, no more visits to the doctor for some anti-septic shots.

Whatever your pet is, if it has claws, we have the equipment that you can buy for your home use. You can also check out our grooming services if you want us to do it for you
