How do I know if my animal is stressed?
Animals cannot tell us when they are feeling stressed or scared and we struggle to understand their behaviour. Is your pet showing any of the following?
  • Excessive vocalising
  • Destructive behaviour
  • Struggling with car travel
  • Toileting in the house
  • Begging
  • Running away
  • Struggling with vet/groomer visits
  • Aggression towards humans or other animals
  • Fear in everyday situations
  • Withdrawal or seeking more attention than normal

Behaviour problems are common but they can usually be solved by taking some simple steps. Speak to your vet today about what can be done to help.

What else can I do to help?
Every pet has their own personality, so no one solution fits all behavioural issues. This is why your vet may recommend a variety of management options.

Examples of ways problem behaviours are managed include:
  • Environmental changes
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Behavioural training
  • Calming supplements
  • Pharmaceuticals

Top tips for fireworks
Act normally even though your pet is frightened. Trying to comfort them will only make it seem that there is indeed something to be afraid of. Never punish fearful behaviour, just ignore it. Ensure the area where your dog normally rests is a safe zone. Provide toys, chews and as many pleasant distractions as possible. Close the curtains and play loud music to mask the noise. Keep doors closed at all times and the area where your pet is housed securely. Microchip your pet in case escapes does occur. Walk your pet outside of peak firework time.
